The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), passed in June 2018 is a state statute intended to enhance privacy rights and consumer protection for residents of California, United States. This is seen as the US equivalent of EU’s GDPR, but is not as strict in most areas. It does introduce the concept of “Sale of PI”, which is still the cause of a lot of debate amongst businesses given its open-ended definition of sharing consumer’s personal information “for monetary or other valuable consideration.”
